Checked 20 October 2026 against the Income-tax Act 2025 (sections 17, 19, 156, 202 and 516), the Budget 2026 papers, EPFO notification S.O. 5109(E) and state professional tax schedules. How we check.
Assumes one employer for the whole year, no ESI (salary above ₹21,000 a month), no benefits in kind and no other income. Monthly figures are the yearly amounts divided by 12. Why in-hand is less than CTC.
These figures are estimates based on the information you entered and the rules for tax year 2026-27 under the Income-tax Act 2025 as it stands after Budget 2026, EPFO notifications and state professional tax schedules. They are general information, not tax, financial or legal advice. Your actual in-hand salary can differ, for example because of your company's salary structure, variable pay, PF rules, your regime choice, TDS timing or your state. Check your payslip, or ask your payroll team or a chartered accountant, before relying on these figures.
Why less of a hike reaches you
Part of any hike goes into employer PF and gratuity inside the CTC, and part into your own PF. A hike can also push taxable income into a higher slab. Just above ₹12 lakh of taxable income, marginal relief caps the tax at the income above ₹12 lakh. With the 4% cess, each extra rupee there costs a little more than a rupee in tax, so a small hike can leave you with less in hand until taxable income passes about ₹12.7 lakh.
